Athleta had a very good opening start, with Todorovic sharing the best play. 22-20. Floriana revamped during the second session and showed bettern play. 9-20. Half Time score 31-40. During the third session Athleta dominant force showed good talent from Michael Naudi and reduced the deficit to 8 points. 17-16. Athleta earned a ticket to the finals against Floriana after beating Depiro in a thrilling match, which Athleta won in extra time. A very good opening for our Seniors with Michael Naudi back in top form, opened a slight lead during the first session. Depiro went into attack during the second session and deducted the score to go for half time 35-34. The third quarter was balanced and Athleta increased the gap by 6 points lead. 45-42. Hibs were very determineld to acquire the points where they have captured 13 points during the first session against 6. Athleta started to concentrated more and became very organised in offense and managed to make 18 points. 18-13. Half time score ended 24-26. During the third session, Athleta were the better side very organised in defense by Marie Elise Pollacco and good offense by Kim Portanier and Denise Gilford. Athleta cut their ticked to the Louis Borg Cup final when they had beaten Siggiewi. The Champions passed the ball in attack and struck right when they won over disorganised Siggiewi. The defense was superb giving little chance for Siggiewi to penetrate. In the first leg Athleta went 20-8 with good shooting in the first quarter. Half time score ended 26-22. Steve Schembri found his shooting magic and Athleta won the third session 40-36 and managed to thrash poor opponents 62-48. This 14 point lead to the second match which gave a lead 35-33 to half time. Athleta managed the lead to 52-48. The game ended 68-70. Athleta won on an Aggregate 130-118.
