Athleta AtoZ Basketball Club are pleased to announce that they have appointed Sandro Farrugia as Head Coach of the Men’s First Division Team. Sandro has vast experience as a basketball coach, having been head coach of a number of teams competing in the Women’s First Division League.Sandro has won various honours over his 40 year career as a coach. He was appointed to lead the MBA Academy for junior girls and boys. He held appointments as the National Coach for the Under 18 and Under 16 girls teams. During this time Sandro led Malta to win a number of honours, including the Silver and Bronze medals at FIBA European Championships for Small Countries.He also spent 6 years as the Assistant Coach for the Ladies National Team. During this time, the National Team managed to win 3 gold medals during its participation at the GSSE games and FIBA European Championships.

Joe Galea, President of Athleta AtoZ, believes that Sandro has the right qualities and necessary experience to lead Athleta AtoZ’s senior team towards a successful season. Joe also believes that Sandro will be instrumental in developing the skills of a number of the younger promising players in the squad.
Sandro wishes to thank the Club for their confidence and trust, and that he feels it is an honour to be coaching one of Malta’s most established and successful clubs.

Finally the Athleta AtoZ President also thanked Christos Kousidis who was the Senior Team’s Head Coach last season for the successful run the seniors team had during the campaign and augured him the best of luck in his upcoming coaching endeavours overseas.
